David Toms shares Colonial lead with Reavie

David Toms shares Colonial lead with Reavie

David Toms is starting to again feel the kind of confidence he had when he was winning tournaments and consistently ranked among the PGA Tour's best players. That disappointing near-miss before Colonial isn't shaking him.Four days after losing a playoff at The Players Championship, Toms shot his best score in more than five years and his best opening Fila Korea Buys Titleist For Global Expansion round ever. His bogey-free 8-under 62 on Thursday gave him a share of the first-round lead at Colonial Tiger's Troubles Are Golf's Problems with Chez Reavie."It was one of those days where the hole just looked big," Toms said. "This round certainly helps me get past what happened last week at the end."After forcing a playoff with K.J. Choi at TPC Sawgrass with a rare birdie at the 18th hole, Toms missed a short par putt at the famed No. 17 island hole that would have extended play. Still, that was Toms' third top-five finish in a stretch of seven tournaments."It is nice to be playing good again," the 44-year-old Toms said. "Certainly, I'm not going to try to figure out why. ... I just go out there and play."His start at Hogan's Alley was his best score in 429 rounds -- since a career-best 61 at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January 2006. That was the last of his 12 PGA Tour victories, and at the end of a stretch of eight years when he finished the season ranked 11th or better six times, including three times in the top five. The 62s by Toms and Reavie matched the lowest 18-hole scores on the PGA Tour this Alabama Men's Golf At NCAA Central Regional season, and were the best for an opening round. Reavie bettered his career-best round by two strokes.Rickie The golfing R11 Driver You Can Afford Easily Fowler shot a 63, missing a chance to tie the tournament record after his approach on his final hole, the 407-yard No. 9, hit the green and spun back into the water. He closed with a double-bogey 6 in a round that included an eagle, eight birdies and a three-putt bogey from 6? feet at the par-3 16th.Fowler made a 20-foot eagle putt on the par-5 first hole and was 8 under over an eight-hole stretch before hitting his tee shot at his final hole left of a bunker into the rough before his penalized approach. And he still had a 29 on the front side.

Players don't see the fuss over battle for No. 1

Players don't see the fuss over battle for No. 1

The 38-year-old Westwood is taking it all in stride.“Everything I read is, ‘So-and-so could go past Lee Westwood.’ Unfortunately that’s how it is when you’re No. 1,” he said. “You can only go one way. There is never a line where it says, ‘Lee Westwood can go past …’ because there is nobody in front of me.“I just have to live with it and I’m not really worried about it. We are all out here with the purpose of trying to win golf tournaments, really.”Westwood – who spent 17 weeks at No. 1 from October until February, fell back, then regained it from Kaymer last month – knows he’ll keep the top spot if he makes the final at the Finca Cortesin course in TaylorMade Burner 2.0 irons Can Creat A Special Swing southern Spain. If Westwood is eliminated in the semifinals, Donald can move to No. 1 by winning the tournament. Third-ranked Kaymer of Germany will go to No. 1 if he wins the event and Westwood doesn’t qualify for the last four. With all three players part of Europe’s Ryder Cup-winning team of 2010, it’s very much the friendliest of rivalries.“It’s obviously a great accolade to be No. 1 – I would love to be No. 1 – but certainly it’s something I’m not really thinking about,” said Donald, who has never topped the rankings. “I think No. 1 is more up for grabs now for many people. Obviously week to week, it seems like it’s between the three of us the last couple of months, but certainly there’s people lurking behind who can get in the mix as well. It’s just something added to the mix, something to shoot for. Just something to be interested in for the fans.”Donald said hed prefer to meet Westwood in Sunday’s final, even if such a scenario meant he’d stay below his compatriot in the rankings.“I’d love to play Lee in the final,” Donald said. “It’s more satisfaction when you can take down the best player in the world.”Second-ranked Donald, who could leapfrog fellow Englishman Westwood by winning the World Match Play Championship this week, says “it’s certainly different to the days when Tiger had such a big lead … but we’re less fussed about it than everyone else."

Watching Seve Ballesteros play was a life-affirming experience

Watching Seve Ballesteros play was a life-affirming experience

In good times and bad, Severiano Ballesteros never failed to remind us of why we fell in love with sport in the first place. Watching him play in his gorgeous prime, swept along on gusts of glory, improvising with an artist's instinct and touch, was an infallibly life-affirming experience. Watching him during the long years of decline was a reminder of mortality. His death deprives us of a golfer whose appeal reached out far beyond the game's own constituency. He was a handsome Miller Think Tiger Will Win man and, as he chased down five major championships, a handsome sight. In later times, before he belatedly called it a day, the hopeless thrashing of his dark-eyed attempts to revive that lost genius drew crowds willing him to recover the rapture of his youth.
Everyone in this line of work has favourite Seve stories, tales of encounters with a man in whose hands sport turned into the thing it is supposed to be: a matter of risk and romance, of danger and daring. The first of mine comes from a time when his descent from Olympus was gathering pace.It was back in the spring of 1994, on a day when black rain was falling on the practice day for the Spanish Open in Madrid. Ballesteros, 20 years into a professional career that had begun at 17, was working on the practice green with a coach called Mac O'Grady, a 43-year-old The Intech Inferior G15 driver ex-pro from Minnesota whose methods combined the findings from his own research into the neurobiological aspects of the golf swing with mind-management techniques that appeared to have been drawn from the wilder shores of Californian psychotherapy.A week earlier, Ballesteros had won his first tournament in two years, the Benson & Hedges Open at St Mellion, ending a headline-making barren spell of 50 events with only four top-10 finishes and 17 missed cuts. Hoping to find out if the recovery was real and he was finally on the way back, I walked in his footsteps with the voluble coach for company. O'Grady's words gave a glimpse of the lengths to which a top sportsman will go in the attempt to become reacquainted with the gifts that once came naturally.

Ballesteros was recalled by his rivals

Ballesteros was recalled by his rivals

Those who competed against him recalled what a fierce competitor Ballesteros was in his prime. Davis Love faced Ballesteros in his first three matches as a Ryder Cup rookie, which was quite a baptism against the man who put the Ryder Cup on the map. Before continental Europe was added in 1979, the Ryder was a one-sided affair that generated little interest outside of traditional golf fans. Ballesteros led Europe to multiple victories that instilled a competitive fire that still burns bright on both sides of the Atlantic "He was an icon in the game, somebody I looked up to," Love said. "I copied his swing, everybody wanted to Els And Former President Bush Inducted Into World Golf Hall Of Fame be as exciting, fun and flashy as Seve -- but maybe hit a few more fairways. Everybody loved that style. They wanted to be aggressive and flamboyant and to play like that." In some ways, that's how many top stars play the game these days. Blow it down there off the tee, find it and hit it again. Seve was never the best ballstriker, but nobody ever ad-libbed their way around a course better. "It was great to get to play against him some," said Love, 47.
"It is sad and makes you realize that no matter how great a player you are, your time will come eventually. He enjoyed his life." Similarly to Love, Mickelson has vivid memories of his early encounters with Ballesteros before he made hay as a professional. "He's certainly had an impact on the game, but to me the greatest thing about Seve is his flair and his charisma," Mickelson said. "Because of the way he played the game of golf, you were ping g15 driver drawn to him. You wanted to go watch him play. He had charisma and he had so many shots that it was fun to watch him play." They were kindred spirits, for sure. Mickelson badly wanted to play with Ballesteros, and a practice round was arranged at Phil's first PGA Tour event, the 1988 San Diego Open. "From that day on, he couldn't have been nicer to me," Mickelson said. "We had a great round of golf. He showed me a few things, showed me a few shots, and ever since then we've had a good relationship for the last 23 years that I've known him." This year as defending titlist at the Masters, Mickelson served Spanish food at the annual champions dinner in honor of Ballesteros, who has been unable to travel for the past two years. Former world No. 1 Vijay Singh cut his teeth on the European Tour when Ballesteros was still very much a fixture.

Will Tiger Woods break Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors?

Will Tiger Woods break Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors?

The 2011 PGA season was expected to be a chance for Woods to reclaim his No. 1 in the world status but his latest ailments have created doubt that Tiger Woods will ever have the opportunity to win 19 majors.Jack Nicklaus won his last major in '86 when he captured The Masters. Nicklaus was 46 at the time and no one expected Tiger Is Far From Finished on PGA Tour him to win. He had not won in two years and Nicklaus posted a best finish of 36th that year. The win came as a surprise to everyone but Nicklaus.
At the age of 35, Tiger Woods is still in the hunt for Nicklaus' record. The majors that remain this year are on courses that suit Tiger Woods' style. The U.S. Open will be held on the Congressional Country Club course, a course that Tiger enjoys playing and holds his annual Fourth of July tournament. The British Open will be held at the classic Royal St George's. This year the tournament has been lengthened and the par has been lowered from 71 to 70. In 2003 many professionals complained about the fairways that played havoc with perfect tee shots. Balls bounced and went off course unexpectedly, frustrating golfers. This type of course may play into Tiger Woods' favor. He is accustomed to saving bad tee shots and this course may be right up his alley. Woods is built to play in the British Open and despite his struggles in recent years he is always a favorite in the British and The Masters every year.
So how many majors can Tiger Woods win this year? He can realistically win one of the three majors this year. It comes down to course length and familiarity. Woods has to figure out his putting issues but he can get the ball on the green with plenty of opportunity to post a good score. It will come down to his short game if Tiger is to win a major and close the gap on Nicklaus.
Will Tiger Woods have enough time to catch Nicklaus? Woods has the mentality that he will never quit until he reaches his goal. It may come down to Tiger Woods notching his 19th major at the age of 46. We have not witnessed the demise of Tiger Woods to this point. He will not give up on this record until he owns it. No matter how long it takes.

Men’s golf struggles at Pac-10 Championships

Men’s golf struggles at Pac-10 Championships

Despite being one of the more veteran teams, the Sun Devils played most of the tournament in last place and were a surprising seven strokes out of ninth after one round.“It was just a bad day of golf,” ASU coach Randy Lein said. The top three ASU competitors were quickly out of the race for the individual title. Since they had no chance of accomplishing their pre-tournament goals, the Sun Devils pulled it together against the Wildcats. The teams The Golf Tips To Pitch Closer were paired with each other for the final two rounds, and ASU was able to recover and finish eight strokes ahead of WSU, securing a small victory in what was overall a disappointing weekend.
The team’s top player, senior Scott Pinckney, expressed his concerns about the format before the tournament, saying it was all about being rested. He was one of the few ASU golfers that recorded a score close to par in the second round. The other Sun Devils fell back, including a disastrous 13-over-par 83 from three-time All-American senior Jesper Kennegard.“The first day we did exactly what no team wants to do: play mediocre and poor golf and put yourself in a hole,” Lein said. All the teams except for WSU and ASU had a player finish in the top 11. Senior Oscar Zetterwall, the only Sun Devil competitor who had yet to finish in the top 10 this year, had ASU’s best score, finishing tied for 20th, while the Cougars’ top player finished tied for 16th. ASU junior Philip Francis recorded the only subpar round for the Sun Devils and finished second on the team and tied for 28th overall.“We were all expecting to salvage the season with some good play, but it just didn’t happen,” Lein said.USC sophomore Martin Trainer won the event in a playoff, defeating OSU sophomore Alex Moore after seven extra holes. Trainer led his team to a first-place finish, but received plenty of help from his teammates, as three Trojans finished in the top eight.

Lee Westwood Won Silenced American Sniping

Lee Westwood fired a stunning five-under-par final-round 67 to win the Ballantine's Championship and retain his status as number one in the world.Westwood, who won in Indonesia last week, needed a top-five finish to hold off Martin Kaymer in the rankings. Lee Westwood fortified his position at the top of the world rankings and silenced American sniping yesterday as he tacked victory at the Ballantine's Championship Review of TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 Series onto last week's win in Jakarta. There had been further calls in the US for a change in the world points system after the Englishman leapfrogged Martin Kaymer back to the top of the ladder by finishing at the head of a relatively modest field at the Indonesian Masters. Much was once again made of the one big gap on Westwood's resume, his failure to win a Major, by commentators who plainly find it hard to comprehend the simple logic which underpins the necessarily complex world points system.
Golf's No 1 is the player who has performed consistently well against the world's other top pros over a period of two years. For those who find this concept difficult to grasp, pictures of Westwood holding a trophy won in an event which included names like Dustin Johnson or, maybe, Miguel Angel Jimenez, might help ease their angst. Westwood, who went into those final 18 holes three shy of the lead shared on 10-under by Jimenez, Rhys Davies and Alexander Noren, claimed his 22nd European Tour victory with a flawless round of 67. Ireland's Shane Lowry, Gareth Maybin and Damien McGrane began the long trek from South Korea to Barcelona for this week's Open de Espana at El Prat buoyed by decent performances which yielded a share of 13th place on five-under par and a cheque for €29,046 each. All five Irish competitors made the cut in Korea, but Paul McGinley and Michael Hoey endured a frustrating weekend.

Charlottean Eger Gets An Unexpected Gift In Playoff

Charlottean Eger Gets An Unexpected Gift In Playoff

David Eger, who lives part of the year in Charlotte, didn't expect to win the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf tournament with his partner Mark McNulty on Sunday in Savannah, Ga., but they got a pleasant surprise.McNulty and Eger were the beneficiaries of Scott Hoch and Kenny Perry missing a pair of short putts that would have extended the tournament, instead giving the championship to Eger, 59, and his partner.Eger and Brandt Snedeker Wins The Heritage McNulty had posted a best-ball final-round 61 to jump to the top of the leader board after Eger holed a 35-foot birdie putt on their final hole in regulation play. That put the team at 27 under par but Eger said he expected another team or two to match or beat their score. It didn't happen.
Only Hoch and Perry managed to force a playoff and Eger and McNulty were wondering if it would continue on the 10th or 18th hole when both of their opponents missed short putts to lose the playoff on the second extra hole. For Eger, it had been almost a year since his other Champions Tour victory. Since then, he's spent months recovering from a broken ankle that required surgery to repair a ligament and insert a titanium plate and screws. The ankle is still not 100 percent, Eger said, but it's close enough that it no longer affects his golf game. The newly redesigned Revolution golf course will be renamed the Dr. Charles L. Sifford Golf Course at Revolution Park during a public ceremony next Tuesday at 3 p.m. Sifford, a Charlotte native who has moved back to the city, will be on hand for the ceremony. Interview for 2011 Heritage champion- Brandt Snedeker

Interview for 2011 Heritage champion- Brandt Snedeker

Question:Brandt, congratulations, quite a week, quite a final round. Just get your thoughts on the day.
BRANDT SNEDEKER: You know, I did not envision sitting in this room when I teed off at noon. I didn't have really any expectations today, at all. I went out there and I worked really hard with my instructor last night for a couple hours after Easter Traditions In Play At Golf Course we got done. I didn't play very well yesterday. Came out today and just kind of everything clicked. I drove the ball fantastic. Came up with a lot of birdie opportunities. I think I only missed a couple of greens out there on the golf course. I was really striking the golf ball pretty well. I rolled it the way like I've been rolling it for the last month, just fantastic. Got good looks at it.
It's a storybook ending really, to be playing Luke in a playoff, to even have a chance to win was exciting to me. And Luke is trying to get No. 1 in the world and I know what the meant to him. I'm sure he'll be at No. 1 in the world at some point because he's that kind of class player. But to be able to beat him was really special. It made it that much more exciting.
Question:What did you do during the break? And how much were you watching the action?
BRANDT SNEDEKER: That was the longest two hours of my life. It was brutal. I tried to watch some of the golf, but then I never want to root against anybody, so it became hard to watch the golf, because I don't want them to do bad, but I don't want them to do great, either. I went outside, talked on my phone to a few people and really talked about anything but golf, and just try to forget about what was going on. I had a feeling there was going to be a playoff and then I was getting prepared for that. So I never really had a thought that I was going to win right out.
Question: Luke's chip on 18 on the last playoff hole, it looked like it was going in.
BRANDT SNEDEKER: Yeah, it did. It kind of scared me a little bit. You never want to think that you've won. You always want to be prepared for the next playoff hole. I was liking my chances but I saw it come off and go to the right side of the hole, and unbelievable. Give me a chance. I've hit three good shots. I haven't played perfectly. You've won a bunch, let me win one. Come on, help me out.

Cheyenne Woods's charm on the golf game

Cheyenne Woods's charm on the golf game

Skylar Diggins was taking her Notre Dame team to the NCAA Finals. The basketball star was the toast of the town, and the object of desires. Diggins has been mentioned by everyone from Chris Brown to Lil' Wayne. His niece, Cheyenne Woods, is a junior at Wake Forrest. She happens to be an accomplished golfer. She just won the ACC Individual Woman's Putting Problems You May Meet With Tournament. She shot a five-under 208. That was seven strokes better than second place finisher Allie White. It sounds like she is a ship off the ol' Uncle. ESPN, reporting on the ACC Tourney, also stated that Tiger Woods was quite proud of his niece. Going as far as tweeting, "My niece, Cheyenne, just won the ACC golf title by 7 shots! That's awesome, I'm so proud of her."There is another Woods in the world that can master a golf course. That is not the point though. The real point. The one of importance and weight is that there is another hot chick that is good at sports.
Sorry to demean this triumph for Cheyenne in such a way, but that is what caught my eye. She is beautiful. Now is she more stunning than Skylar Diggins? I have to say yes. This is one man's opinion, but the golf digs may have something to do with it. Basketball uniforms are so unflattering. Now golf, that is a dress code I can get behind.

How to Prepare for the Golf Season

How to Prepare for the Golf Season

The answer to all the questions on how to get ready for the upcoming golf season centers on preparation. Preparation is the key to a successful first round of golf and every round you play in the upcoming golf season. We all probably understand the definition of preparation but lets take a quick look in order for us to all be on the same page. Preparation can be defined as the work or planning involved in making something or somebody ready or Review Of Callaway Diablo Edge Series putting something together in advance (Encarta Dictionary, MSN.com).A definition that sheds light on getting ready for the upcoming golf season. Using the above definition we can see the process of preparing for the upcoming golf season does not begin 10 minutes before your first tee time, but rather in advance of when you get ready to hit driver off the first tee. Bottom line the process of getting ready for the upcoming golf season begins weeks or even months before your' first round of golf of the year.
To have a successful first round of golf and a good season of golf you must begin the process of preparation well in advance of your first time on the golf course. If you look at professional golfers they begin the process of preparing for the upcoming golf season months in advanced. I would suggest doing the same. Develop a plan that will get your golf swing ready once the snow thaws, the birds are chirping, and the greens are ready for putting.

England’s Simon Dyson hitting a shot on the 18th hole

England’s Simon Dyson hitting a shot on the 18th hole

The Englishman returned a bogey-free card, firing eight birdies to match Rory McIlroy’s performance on the greens.Dyson started with a two-under 70 on Thursday and will be relishing the chance to make a title charge.“I wasn’t feeling at my best yesterday (on Thursday) and went back to my room and straight to bed. I woke up this morning Ping G15 Series Review and felt better again and managed to get it going with eight birdies and no bogeys,” said Dyson, who is clueless about what hit him at the start of the tournament“I don’t know what it was. I drank so much water. I missed breakfast and did not eat much for lunch ... so I guess that was it.“My energy just went like a flick of the switch (on Thursday). I birdied 10 and had a decent shot into 11 and birdied the next two holes.“I prefer the early morning tee-off. The greens are a lot better for a start and it is less humid. I read the greens really well,” added Dyson, who is now playing in the European Tour. The world No. 45 has a great affinity to Asia as he won the Order of Merit crown in his rookie professional season, thanks largely to three wins in 2000.“I don’t play too bad out here. It might be the success I had in 2000. I come out here and always seem to fancy my chances,” he said.

Tiger Woods is the best-known sports figure in the world

Tiger Woods is the best-known sports figure in the world

Tiger Woods is the best-known sports figure in the world. For more than a decade, he has dazzled us with his golf. He so captivated us, we had to watch him and as he won one tournament after another, we have speculated whether he might break Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major championships. We were privileged to see him play and he drew us Review Of TaylorMade R9 to the tournaments and the television sets as no one ever had.And then it all crashed down when it was revealed that he was cheating on his wife. He lost his beautiful family and his career went spiraling downward. He not only couldn’t win anymore, he couldn’t play well.
When, after all of that and after going winless for more than a year, he almost wins the Masters, when for nine holes on Sunday he is his old fist-pumping self, threatening to rise all the way to the top again, that’s news, big news.Charl Schwartzel won, playing some wonderful golf on a day filled with drama, but to the general public, he’s just another guy with a good game, a sweetheart of a putter and a big heart. But he’s not an ongoing saga, a history maker. He made headlines that day but Tiger makes them every time he walks onto a course.Woods has paid dearly for his transgressions. He has done just about everything he can do to atone. He’s tried hard and he’s still trying. Now it’s time to let it go.
Some will never forgive him, but apparently the majority of people have. Tiger got long standing ovations at 18th hole at the Masters. That’s after applause and cheering and shouts of encouragement all the way around, all four days. Those people and undoubtedly millions more want him back.If you can’t set aside Tiger’s follies and just watch him as a master of his game, it’s your right, of course. To each his own.

The Western Golf Assocation tends to go to communities

The Western Golf Assocation tends to go to communities

As a FedEx Cup Event, the BMW Championship was intended to alternate between the Chicago area and other Midwestern cities. The decision to move the 2014 event away from the Chicago area comes as no surprise to Katherine Jemsek, president of Cog Hill.“The Western Golf Assocation tends to go to communities that haven’t had a Woods Is Associated With Nicklaus In Masters tournament in a while, and from the past they have shown that they will continue to rotate in and out of Chicago,” she said.Cog Hill has hosted the Fedex Cup Playoff event every year since its inauguration in 2007, with the exception of 2008, when it was held in St. Louis. The 2012 event has been scheduled in Indianapolis for quite some time (Illinois’ Medinah Country Club will host the Ryder Cup that year).A site for the 2013 BMW Championship has not yet been determined.Cog Hill received some negative comments from tournament players last year following a redesign of the Dubsdread course and months of heavy rains. The club has since hired a new superintendent, Scott Pavalko, who is in his second week on the job.
Jemsek reports that a visit by the PGA Tour agronomist earlier this week went well. When the BMW Championship is held in the Chicago area, Jemsek believes that Cog Hill is still the ideal location for it.“We have the infrastructure, we have space for the corporate hospitality, for parking for spectators, to allow BMW to build the experience they want for everyone who comes through the tournament,” she said. “There are a lot of other good golf courses in Chicago, but with the space and infrastructure and parking needed to host such an event, I think that we are still the logical choice.”

Hammers striker wants team to replicate Tiger charge

Hammers striker wants team to replicate Tiger charge

The Hammers remain in the bottom three of the Premier League table and face a slog to escape the drop into the Championship. But Cole has called on the team to draw from the experience of Woods, who began day four at Augusta seven shots Woods Is Associated With Nicklaus In Masters off the lead, before clawing his way back to jointly lead the first major of the year. Charl Schwartzel eventually went on to claim the Green Jacket, but Cole still thinks Woods' revival can be an inspiration for West Ham. “Watching the golf reminded me of us,” said the striker. “Tiger fought right until the end, even when the chips were down, we have to do the same as a team.” Ultimately, it was his putter that let him down. He needed 33 putts on Saturday, 31 on Sunday and missed a handful of short putts that might have been tap-ins in years gone by.Woods has not Youth Golf Movement In Masters won a major since 2008 nor any tournament since 2009 when the sordid details of his private life became public and his game began to implode. The golf world has been waiting patiently for him to resurface and continue his chase of Jack Nicklaus's record 18 majors.

Mark Wilson was cruising along in his Masters

Mark Wilson was cruising along in his Masters

Mark Wilson was cruising along in his Masters debut Thursday before an uphill birdie putt, of all things, caused him to come temporarily unglued.Wilson, the FedEx Cup points leader from Menomonee Falls, Wis., shot a disappointing 4-over-par 76. Afterward, he was shaking his head about his "out-of-body experience" on the par-5 eighth hole. After Wilson And His Golf Performance making seven pars to start the round, Wilson had a 10-foot birdie putt to get to 1-under."I got a little ahead of myself," he said. "I firmed it through the break and missed a 3-footer coming back, and then I missed another 3-footer. I kind of learned a lesson there. I was counting that birdie before I hit it."Wilson, 36, proceeded to bogey No. 9 after a bad drive, bogey No. 10 after his ball picked up mud in the fairway and bogey No. 11 after another bad drive."I was surprised at what I did on eight," he said. "Normally, I'm able to put that behind me, but I didn't do a good job of it today. It took me a couple holes, and I paid for it."He finally settled down and birdied Nos. 13 and 14 but missed a short par putt on No. 18.
Wilson had a great look at eagle on the par-5 13th after hitting a 3-hybrid from 217 yards to within 6 feet. But he said he misread the putt and then pushed it a hair, too."If I could have just rolled a few putts in on the back I could have made four or five birdies and an eagle," he said. "But I still feel good about things."I do some dumb things around here, I know that," Stricker said with a laugh. "But I managed to right the ship. It's not the start I wanted but I'm in OK shape and we get out early tomorrow (8:24 a.m.)."Stricker bogeyed the first hole, didn't take advantage of the par-5 second and bogeyed No. 6."The greens were fairly smooth, but the scary thing here is they pick up speed from Wednesday to Thursday," he said. "So you're a little tentative early in the round."

Tiger Woods showed flashes of his 14-major former self

Tiger Woods showed flashes of his 14-major former self

"I played myself back into the championship," Woods said after a 10-foot birdie putt brought him to the midway point at 7-under 137."Anytime you shoot 66 in a major, it's always going to be good. I'm very pleased about that – very pleased."It was Woods' best round at Augusta National since 2005, when he won the most recent of his four green jackets Wilson And His Golf Performance in an eventual playoff against Chris DiMarco. And it fell right in line with two of his other victories, when he also fired 66s to put himself at the forefront. The round also matched Woods' best of a faltering year, having also shot 66 in the final round at Doral. But that came from well back in the pack, not the second round of a major – the one he's happens to be most fond of."It was nice to get it going," Woods said, "and it was nice to put myself only three back."Said McIlroy: "It will be great for the tournament if he's up there. But I'm two shots ahead [of anyone else] and in a better position."
McIlroy's second-round 69 left him at 10-under 134, the lowest through 36 holes at Augusta National since DiMarco did the same in 2005. Day was two shots back after his 64, matching the lowest second round in Masters annals and one off the record that's been achieved two dozen times in majors.K.J. Choi posted a 70 to stand alongside Woods at 7-under, with Geoff Ogilvy (69) and Alvaro Quiros (73) another stroke back."We've got a long way to go," Woods said. "It's going to be fun."

More Masters tickets wii give chance to public next season

More Masters tickets wii give chance to public next season

The good news? Beginning next season, a limited supply of daily tournament round tickets will be made available to the general public. The bad news? It’s still going to be a real long shot to get them.“We already get hundreds of thousands of requests, the old, simple mail-it-in way,” Payne said. “It’s not a real good chance, but it’s a chance.”Payne said the extra tickets for daily rounds were not added to the current allotment of badges that are available. Rather, they were badges that will be re-distributed from patrons who have died or decided Winning Is More Important Than Swing they will no longer use them.“It’s just a supply of tickets that replenishes itself annually and predictably,” Payne said. “And what you’re not going to get is the exact number, but it’s fair to define it as a significant number. We all talked about it and we decided that’s the word we wanted to use — significant.”The tickets will be made available for the first time on the Masters website.
Payne also said regular attendees of the tournament will receive word later in the year that the renewal process for daily Masters badges will be done online as well.During Monday night’s severe storms that blew through the Augusta area, several trees were brought down around the course. While the course itself suffered virtually no damage, one of the club’s 150-year-old magnolia trees was uprooted.Payne said he was unsure of whether or not the tree — located along Augusta National’s famous Magnolia Lane entrance — would be replaced.“We don’t know yet,” Payne said, noting that “150-year-old magnolias are in short supply for transplanting. We were all very much saddened by that and we will make the best out of a difficult situation. We will deal with it somehow, but we just haven’t decided how to do it yet.”

Mickelson's success factors

Mickelson's success factors

Since many factors go into making a successful round, and because Mickelson is among the world’s best for many more reasons than his left-handed golfing — he does most nongolf things right-handed — it is hard to use statistics to show a left-handed advantage at Augusta National. And the left-handed sample size is small. But to use an admittedly simple measure, in their Masters careers, Mickelson, Watson and Weir have played the 2nd, 5th, 9th, 10th  Women Golf End In Athens and 13th holes considerably better than the cumulative scoring average for each of those holes (4.35 to 4.8, for example, on the par-5 second hole, and 4.08 to 4.8 on the par-5 13th). The three players have a 3.996 scoring average for those five holes, well under the cumulative scoring average for those holes of all golfers, 4.468. Mickelson, Weir and Watson have been 82 under par on those five holes in 128 rounds played. Mickelson, whose assertive and confident bearing on the Augusta National grounds seems to grow with each spring, conceded that there were holes that set up well for his favored play off the tee. Or as he said, “There are holes that fit well to my eye.” But he tried to temper that remark with a qualification: “There are a couple of holes that I feel more uncomfortable playing left-handed.”

Women’s golf changes all the time

Women’s golf changes all the time

Women’s golf has been become extremely popular over the past few years and there are currently as many professional women golfers as there are men. Golf equipment companies have also recognized the amount of women interested in the sport and have customized many pieces of golf equipment including golf clubs, drivers and golf bags to be more comfortable for women. You can also have your own golf equipment custom-made; making golfing more comfortable and efficient for women since men’s clubs were often to big. These are just a few of the steps which have been taken to welcome women into the world of golf and ensure that they are Golf Of Women Concludes Regular Season In Athens  comfortable and treated as equally as possible. Women’s golf associations such as the LPGA have also contributed to the popularity of women’s golf and given women the respect they deserve. Women golfers are now featured in Golf Digest magazine, Golf for Women and a number of other magazines dedicated strictly to women’s golf. Videos and TV shows are also contributing to the popularity of this sport and giving women the “drive” they need to pursue careers in this field.
It was not until earlier this year, that women’s golf took a leaping step in the right direction when professional golfer and top LPGA player, Annika Sorenstam was told she could play against the men in a PGA tournament. Many people predicted how they thought Sorenstam would do when she teed-off against some of the best male golfers in the world. Some people had positive encouragement to contribute while others were chauvinistic and down-right rude.
